Style Spotlight : JapJap

Who are you?
Well, My name is Vanessa "JapJap" Taylor. I'm 19 years old from Little Old Connecticut!

What do you do?
I'm currently a student at Tunxis Community College finishing my general/liberal arts education courses! I previously attended UNC Charlotte for a year as well (Shoutout to The Niner Nation Fam). As of today, Lol, I'd like to pursue a degree in criminal justice after I transfer but everyone that knows me, knows that I want and WILL become a grammy-award winning songwriter and singer. That's my call. That's my life. That's my passion!

What/Who is your style inspiration?
Ahh.. you know as an artist you pick up inspiration from all things, all people, all places. I guess the inspiration for my style is drawn from a big mix and match of different sub-cultures in the American lifestyle.  I love the snap backs and the skinnies with the vans  - you know the skater look, but then I can be online looking at H&M's fall catalog drooling at their latest collection of Blazers and cardigans. I'm pretty versatile, but my main thing is to be comfortable and confident! I've got to feel good in what I'm wearing, regarldess of what it is.

What are some of your favorite brands or stores?
Well, I mentioned H&M earlier, but I don't think I have a favorite brand. It used to be Hollister but I'm growing out of that phase. Right now I'm trying to re-invent my "swag." I visit a lot of fashion blogs and dig through articles to find online shops, especially in Atlanta. Is an online store I f*cking adore!

What would you like to see more of in regards to style for "The Androgynous Woman"?
Why, I think it's pretty damn awesome right now! Perhaps connecting Androgynous style with women in the music industry? What are their stories and how did they find themselves "fitting in" with such a unique and controversial style (and sexuality)? I'm headed down that road right now, seems like a pretty interesting topic!

Style Spotlight: Vjay

I got the opportunity to speak with a fellow androgynous woman who happens to be a model. I like her style and had to share with you all. Be sure to check out her blog: Vjay's World

Who are you?
Victoria J. Better known as Vjay. Virgo-27 years old. From Chicago, Illinois.

What do you do?
I work for a non profit organization and I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Forensic Psychology.

What/Who is your style inspiration?
Personally, I believe my style is inspired by simply wanting to be self. If I had to describe my style I would say it's definitely metrosexual (form fitting and tailored) and it varies from edgy to preppy depending on my mood.

What are some of your favorite brands or stores?
Some of my favorite stores are H&M, Forever 21, Top Man, American Eagle, and Hot Topic (just to keep it short)

What would you like to see more of in regards to style for "The Androgynous Woman"?
What I would like to see more of would probably be more Androgynous Women really stepping out and pushing the boundaries into the "lime light". Currently there are a few Androgynous Women who stand alone and unfortunately they represent an entire group solely because no other faces are being exposed. Their pressures of hearing "No" are high, but what Androgynous Women need to realize is, the possibilities of hearing yes are still there. Its time for more risk takers.

Androgynous style icons

I think it's about time to share a couple of my very own androgynous style icons. There really aren't too many females that are in the public eye that conquer this look but I must say that Katherine "Kate" Moenning better known as Shane from  The L Word and Ellen Degeneres execute and make the androgynous style their very own.
